About the Speaker: Dr. Melissa Sreckovic joined the University of Michigan-Flint in September 2015 and is an Assistant Professor in the Education Department. She teaches courses on disability, teaching in the inclusive classroom, classroom management, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Her research agenda is driven by her passion for inclusion and supporting individuals with disabilities, their families, and their service providers. Her research agenda includes three research domains: (1) best practices for fostering inclusion in schools and communities; (2) intervention strategies for individuals with autism spectrum disorder; and (3) translating research to practice to support P-12 educators. Dr. Sreckovic has published several peer-reviewed articles in journals including Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, Journal of Positive Behavior Interventions, Teacher Education and Special Education, Teaching Exceptional Children, Young Children, Behavioral Disorders, and others.

About the Video: This video walks students through a typical week in an all-online, undergraduate course at the University of Michigan-Flint. The course presented was designed to provide future educators with a foundational knowledge of the characteristics of students with disabilities, understanding how the characteristics may be demonstrated in the inclusive classroom, and methods for teaching in the inclusive classroom as it relates specifically to students with disabilities. In this course you will notice the instructor uses a consistent layout each week – Welcome (a brief introduction to the topic of the week and housekeeping items), Read (assigned readings for the week), Explore (opportunities for students to take in the content and make sense of the content), Do (opportunities for students to demonstrate their understanding of the content). The instructor designed this course using a universal design for learning framework. As such, all features of the course are accessible (e.g., captions are provided for all videos), the content is presented in multiple modalities (e.g., lecture, podcast, learning module), and the instructor provides options for students to process the information and demonstrate their learning. Finally, this course is collaborative. The instructor seeks feedback from students and integrates feedback by modifying the course as needed.
